Regulatory Compliance

Whether local, state or federal, paperwork can be simplified when the chip number is there to verify the horse and validate the action. Coggins forms and health certificates can be completed by the veterinarian with confidence, as he scans the horse and records the chip number.

Health officials can have equal confidence when they scan the same horse and verify his chip number on the health documents.

The Equine Species Working Group is the committee officially acknowledged by the USDA to represent the US equine industry in the development of the National Identification System for horses.

Recently the ESWG made 16 recommendations to the USDA. They pointed out that
"Microchips are a cost efficient, readily available, equine ID method already in use in equines."

The ESWG also recommended that "existing microchips technologies should be incorporated into the NAIS for equines."
