The Equine Species Working Group is the committee officially acknowledged by the USDA to represent the US equine industry in the development of the National Identification System for horses.
Recently the ESWG made 16 recommendations to the USDA. They pointed out that "Microchips are a cost efficient, readily available, equine ID method already in use in equines."
The ESWG also recommended that "existing microchips technologies should be incorporated into the NAIS for equines."
