How Does It Work?

The HORSEtrac™ Enrollment

As soon as possible after a horse is microchipped, the HORSEtrac™ registration form should be completed and submitted. This can be done by postage-paid mailer, or online at HORSEtracUSA.com.

If you are in a high-risk area for theft or natural disaster, it is recommended that you purchase stable signs to help deter theft, and/or a color picture
HORSEcard® to aid in a quick recovery.

The Recovery…

Should your horse be stolen or become missing in any type of situation, including a natural disaster, you should immediately report this to HORSEtrac™. Your horse is placed on a Hot List at HORSEtrac™, and his digital picture can be posted at HORSEtracUSA.com.

Additionally, all AVID affiliates, law enforcement agencies, brand inspectors and processing facilities are notified in cases of theft, after a police report has been filed.

With the network in place, a recovered or suspect horse can be scanned and the call center contacted by authorities. The microchip number and owner information can be verified at HORSEtrac™ 24/7, by simply calling the 800 number printed on the scanner.

The HORSEtrac™ phone number is well known and is readily available to all recovery organizations and veterinarians.
